Guest mikey531
It appears my car was originally a 3-speed on the column and someone installed a 4 speed. However, my question is would the steering column still have the linkage for the 3 speed or did the factory use a different column for the 4 -speed cars? Thanks
Ted "Wildcat65" Nagel
The factory had a different column for the 4-speed cars.
ol' yeller
There were also 2 different tilt columns as well. Of course, I don't think they made a 3 speed column shift with tilt. Just auto on column and floor shift.
Guest mikey531
Thanks for the quick response, what are the chances of finding a column without the 3 speed linkage?
ol' yeller
They are out there but usually command a premium as adding a console and floor shift are popular upgrades during a restoration. Floor shift tilt columns are very hard to come by and can demand big money. I would think that a column from any A body GM car from that era (64-65) would be workable. I think in '66 was when GM added the 4 way flasher to the column which would also work but not be original correct.
