bgreene30
Hi, anyone have any aftermarket carb reccomendations for a 1948 Carter WCD # 653S? If so, what are the pro's and con's. The original one on the motor has sat for 34 years and need a complete rebuild so I there is a good aftermarket one out there I would rather swap it and keep this one in the garage for a rebuild when I get more time to devote to it.I have a 70 Z28 and 54 BSA goldstar to go finish and helping my uncle out here with his streamliner Silverstreak with L8,CheersBob
carbking
653s was superceded by 720s which was in turn superceded by 2122s.On a scale of 1 to 100 for two-barrels, I would suggest:653s - 90720s - 912122s - 93As far as an aftermarket goes, none will work so well as any of the above on a basically stock engine.Price-wise, the 2122s will be the highest, followed by the 720s and the 653s will be the least expensive. The Carter WCD is one of the easiest two-barrels ever produced to rebuild. Why not do your original?Jon.
