Guest GaWajn
I was wondering if anyone has a modern paint code for the 1953 Cadillac ''ARTISAN OCHRE'' and/or the 1954 Cadilac ''APOLLO GOLD'' colors. I do not have access to an original painted part, which I could have paint matched. Just wondering if anyone has had, or knows of someone who has had the old paints reformulated to a modern code.thank you!
Restorer32
We just painted a '54 Caddy Apollo Gold. Any PPG paint supplier should be able to get the formula.
Guest GaWajn
Thanks for your response ... but ... Canada has the same low VOC laws as California, so if the paint formula does not meet that spec ... I can't get it. I will check with my local PPG guy and see what he can do with that '54 APOLLO GOLD color. Thanks again.
Restorer32
It should be available in water borne.
danleblanc
You can still get low-VOC solvent based paint up here too.

danleblanc
Cool. I'm in Moncton this weekend at the casino for the car show. You should check with the guys at CMax on Baig Blvd. They may be able to mix it up in Nason Ful Base (I like the Nason clear that goes with it). They were able to do a good match on Pompeiian Red for my 62 Cadillac in it. Plus it's solvent based.
Guest GaWajn
I've been to CMax and just about every other paint place around. It is hit or miss with old paint formulae. Usualy with something that old ... if it hasn't been reformulated through the years to the newer paints ... we are out of luck. The best they can do is to try and find a modern paint that is a close match as possible. Most places will give you so much of their time ... then it becomes a non money maker for them and they lose interest. That is why I am trying to find out if someone has had any luck with these old paint colors. Every once in a while ... you can find someone in a paint store that is also in the hobby, and wil go the extra mile for you and experiment a little ... danleblanc
Try Gerry Arsenault at Carquest in Saint John. If he can't mix it nobody in the province can.
Our Buicks
I also wanted artisan ochre to be the color on a 1955 Eldorado I have. The paint shop I use had a hard time coming up with that 1953 mix, but what they did find is a 1968 Buick color "Cameo Cream" which I thought was real good match.Maybe have the paint store mix up a rattle can with this Buick color and see what you think before you move forward with it.Mike

Guest GaWajn
I ended up choosing 1955 Chevrolet ''HARVEST GOLD'' in a single stage Enamel as my yellow color. My local Sherwin Williams has the modern paint codes for this color. Thank you all for the great advice. The yellow on the right of the frame is the '55 color. That is what I will be using The left most color was too yellow for me. The center yellow is 1965-67 Chev Butternut yellow.
