packard lover
Would someone please advise me the diffeerences between the 1954 Oldsmobile 88 and 98 engines and the 1954-1955 Oldsmobile engines? This would be much appreciated as I have a 1955 Oldsmobile 98 Starfire which needs an engine and I have not been able to locate one. Thank you. Oldsfan
'54 98 and Super 88 used the same 185hp, 324 cid engine. Base 88s were rated at 170 hp, the difference being - 98s and Supers used a 4-bbl carb. Base 88s used a 2-bbl. Swapping intakes would solve that, assuming your's is usable. Compression ratio for all three was 8.25 to 1. 3 7/8 bore, 3 7/19 stroke. For '55 compression was increased to 8.50 to one, raising the hp to 202 for 98s and Supers, and 185 for base 88s. All other specs remained the same.Paul
