Dave@Moon
If this car is the direct handiwork of Alex Tremulis I hope it's in for a better fate than is seen so far. That's fantastic!
Dave Henderson
Tremulis probably had nothing to do with the '40's style GM inspired rear appendage on the rusty Cord. He took over design at Auburn Automobile Company after Gordon Buehrig and the rest of the design staff had left for greener pastures by august '36. His only design efforts to go into actual production at AAC were the outside pipes on the supercharged 812's for '37, and yes, the bustleback lid for the '37 Beverly cars, including the custom series, on which he also had completed design work after Buehrig left. This series was longer, higher, and heavier than the standard 125" wheelbase models. Another effort by Tremulis earlier in 1936 included design of 4 prototype bodies for a small Duesenburg (in collaboration with Phil Wright), and he later designed prototype versions of front sheet metal for a proposed 1938 Auburn using the Cord body cabin converted to rwd, neither of which came to fruition. All this per "Cord 810/812 The Timeless Classic", by noted researcher/author Josh Malks. By the time the rusty Cord was modified with the GM-look rear, the Tremulis association with Auburn Automobile Co was history.
Dave Henderson
Correction; the last sentence should say; By the time the rusty Cord was modified with the GM-look rear, the Tremulis association with/and the Auburn Automobile Company per se were both history.
