bebop138
I know we all suffer the same fate---finding good pieces. Does anybody have any good chrome trim for a 52 Windsor 2dr?? All my stuff is so pitted. I have thought of sanding the pot metal stuff till the pits were gone, then sending the parts to the chromers---would this work?? Are there any other options? Thanks!! ted sweet
pits are filled in after chrome is stripped off. sanding will remove the details of the part
Guest De Soto Frank
Do a google search on "muggyweld"...This guy Mike Muggy has developed a number of specialty solder rods for all sorts of "odd" metal repair, among them, filling the pits in pot-metal trim.Basically their technique involves stripping the old plating, cleaning-out each pit with a drill-bit, then filling with their appropriate solder, then filing/sanding/polishing down to the proper contours. It's labor-intensive, but supposedly can be done by anyone who can sweat copper plumbing...No matter WHO does it, pot-metal refinishing is labor intensive... just depends on whether you're furnishing the labor, or paying for somebody else's...Good luck dealing with MoPar's "cruel joke" ( putting the durable stainless-steel trim on the "cheap cars" - Plymouth & Dodge - and loading the good cars -De Soto & Chrysler- down with pot-metal ! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> )
