Roadster90
Mike if possible please,,,I was just reading a Vavoline tutorial on the process and being from the old school as well as being more acclimated to Volkswagens in my learning years, I became somewhat frightened . Hopefully our Reatta vehicles are not as complicated as the new cars that were outlined in this tutorial but not sure. Since I haven't seen a good/proper/correct procedure outlined for the 3800 cooling system on the forum, can someone knowledgeable please give it a go??? Guest spongebob
i just did this..check under the radiator capfor any build up on the passages, and take careof that 1st. then drain the system into something that you can take to the propor disposal place..then diconnect the radiator hoses(to be replaced with new)and use them to flush the engine with..and run plenty of water through the radiator.the thermostat can be a bit cranky on reassemble..you may want to do a search on that item..if you live in a predominatly warm area, i would use 100% water with a bit of water wetter..you might want to consider the heater hoses at thistime as well.(do a search on this too).along with that little bypass hose on the left side of the engine..thats what i did... padgett
Just a suggestion but pay the buck for distilled water if replacing and mix with a gallon of antifreeze. Around here tap water is liable to have a few things in it you really do not want in the cooling system.
Shelby
If you are serious about Changing the Antifreeze.NEVER USE JUST WATER AND WETTER. For a long period of time. You need the anti corrosion additives. Check the plastic Tanks on the Radiator for cracks After all it is 13 years old.Put on all new hose and a water pump. Water pumps are cheap. New themostat and gasket. Drain it and flush it a couple of time.

Guest EDBS0
The drain cock is on the back side of the rad on the driver's side. A bit tough to reach but can be reached from above or below. I like to use a rad flush. Read their directions.I also use and like water wetter.
