SMECulation

Just curious if anyone else has a hotted SMEC? Since installing mine, it goes like an animal once on the blower but I notice lots of unburned fuel in the exhaust and black soot on the tailpipe as well as meager MPG-like 16-17(epa estimate ironically). The new smec took care of the stumbling idle I had before though.

I think this is set up to dump lots of fuel into the system. It sure holds shift points higher.

Jeff-Mine does the same things. Nothing like 17 MPG using 93 octaine. Did you upgrade the exhaust to releave back pressure? I put on a 2.5 system from FWD. Also put the 2.5 on my sons 3 liter T/C. It sounds sooo much better than mine. But he's used to seeing me wave and the back of my bald head. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

NO, came close on an exhaust but the shop couldn't mandrel it so i passed. Which system did you get from FWD? Lengthen it?

I think a blow off valve would help also.

Jeff-Used the 2.5 kit with link enclosed. Our cars are wider by about 4 inches so when I trimed the pipe to install a Catco 2.5 straight thru cat, I used the pipe I cut off to connect the front pipe to the rear. A good local muffler shop will have no problems. Also when I ordered mine Cindy had Stainless in the 2.5. Thats what I purchased.

Hi,

I put in a very humble SMEC from a daytona, but I did upgrade my exhaust to the 2.5 with a universal I?O cat and muffler from dynomax. I get a little burned gas, and I couldn't really tell you with any accuracy about the fuel economy because of the lousy odometer. However, I wouldn't go back for the world. I love the way it performs and I would be really interested to know how the FWD performance SMEC (like 15 lbs or preassure or someting) would do. How do these three speed transmissions hold up to that kind of power? Thanks

Well, Oliver, I only met one other Box and that was a Marcie-any relation?

My smec also transformed this car into something of a keeper v. a dangerously slow little bug.

Tranny is hanging in there after 10k miles-no complaints yet. I think there's 12-13# of max push from the sluggish turbo.

it tends to run like a big block with a hot cam-idles high and has a long coast down(dashpot effect) when off the throttle which I think, contributes to the dismal MPGs. But once above 2500 revs off of idle, it 'stonks' and astonishes quite few fast cars. If only I could get it up on the pipe sooner, say the 1st 200' where almost anything will get a length on me.

anyone ever add a tuned exhaust manifold?
