1938 Special 41 - need pictures of some assemblies

Well, to make a long story short I bought my 1938 Model 41 in pieces. The original owner (and I do mean original) stored the car in his warehouse in Pittsburgh from 1940 to 1971, at which point he sent it to a shop for restoration. About halfway through the restoration, the work was halted and the owner put the car back into the warehouse, which is where it was when I bought it from his estate in 2002. This was both good and bad;

Good:

Engine rebuilt but only partially reassembled

New interior, but not correct materials

Total repaint in laquer, never color sanded

Rust free, straight body

Bad:

Car almost completely dissassembled, boxes and boxes of unidentified stuff, everything that could be removed from body was removed

Many parts "walked off" between 1971 and 2002 (headlight internals, tail lights, some trim, some seat hardware, the generator mounting bracket, etc)

Anyway, I've been working on getting everythign back together again, but without another car to reference it's sometimes difficult to either identify a part or, even when a part or assembly is identified, figure out exactly how it all goes together.

A classic example of this problem is the trunk latching assembly. I've identified the actual main assembly (the "arms" and center hinge) as well as the exterior handle, but I'm not sure how it all attaches to the interior of the trunk lid. I probably have the parts to put it all together, but I can't find any graphics of the assembly in my factory manual or even my Fisher manual, so a picture of one on a working car would be invaluable to figure out which of my unidentified parts belong to this assembly.

Anyway, I was hoping that some kind soul with a '38 ('37 would likely do as well) might be able to take a few shots of their car with a digital camera and post them for me.

Here are the assemblies/areas I'm looking for:

Trunk latch mechanism - trunkback sedan

Routing of wire to license plate light

Throttle linkage from gas pedal to carb

Hood props and catches

Hood bumpers

Generator tensioning "arm"

Thanks in advance!

I will try to take some pictures for you this weekend. My wire routing to the license plate light may not be correct, but everything else should work out ok.

Looks like the rest of the '38 owners are off on spring break.

Grant,

If you can wait until Sat. I will get you some pics that will answer some of your questions. Take a look on this forum under Me and My Buick, Look at the pictures of my 38 restoration, you may see some there that will help you. I am located about 1:15 hours from Lowell, your more than welcome to come look, but mine is a convertible sedan. Glad to help you where I can. Mine came in many pieces from an estate sale as well.

No rush?? You've got little more than a month!! ... and the future missus probably doesn't want greese under the finger nails for the big day! Of course, if she's under the car with you... carry on!

Well, what I'm really saying is that it's not critical for me to get the photos this week. Before May 27 would be good, though <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Here's some shots of mine. (if you don't mind referencing a low-budget amateur job!) Some of these may need some explanation - if you send me your e-mail address, I can drop the photos into a powerpoint file and add comments. Let me know if you need to go this extra step.

Jeff,

Thanks so much!

I have one quick question on the picture of the trunk latches... the shot clearly illustrates how the assembly attaches to the trunk lid, which is extremely helpful. Do you have any shots that show where the "arms" go outside of the picture? i assume there is some sort of guide or channel on the outer edges of the lid to keep them from flopping around?

thanks again!

Hey guys,

could someone (maybe Jeff?) get me a pic of the throttle assembly where it actally attaches to the gas pedal? I think my linkage may be missing a piece... I've got the rod of the linkage itself, and at the gas pedal end there is a riveted on assembly with three holes in it, which from jeff's pic seems to be where you attach the return spring. However, I have no way to connect the linkage to the arm which goes through the firewall to the pedal, leading me to believe that there's a piece missing. any insight?
