Can anyone in the DB Club provide a copy of how to make the tourer hood cover that goes over the hood when it is folded down. ... I have seen a photo of this in the handbook, but no one in Australia can assist in drawings or how it is made.... ( my wife wants to drive around in the car with the "top" down)... and a cover would be handy...

If anyone has one or can give me details please send to me at -- youngja@iinet.net.au

Cheers

John:

I believe you are talking about a tounue cover or boot to put on your top when it is down. These were custom made or bought as accessories. You can make them your self by puting he top down and then taking heavy paper and making a pattern. A good upholster or seamstress can sew up one for you. I have made several and they are easy to make.

Have a nice day.

John,

As the guys said the cover you are referring to is like a spare tire cover in the material. Start with the cardboard pattern of the bottom and top. There will be seams around both fastening to a vertical piece that will go between both. There will be snaps on the sides, usually on the bottom, to secure it after it is snugged over the top. One other thing some forget is there are several straps fastened under the rear seat that come up over the back seat upholstry and fasten to the 'boot' with murphy twist fasteners or snaps to keep it from flapping in the wind while driving with the top down. Good Luck and I hope this helps.

I have some pictures that I will find that shows how to make the cover you requested. It may take a couple of days but they should allow you to do the job your self. The tie downs that roger refers to behind the seat are very important and if you do not have them then you have to add additional snaps on the side otherwise it will be like a balloon and blow off. On my Moon there are murphy fastners along the inside of the back seat to fasten the top of the cover. You do not have to have a cover to drive your car as the wind is not that much of a problem but they do look good.

Have a nice day <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Gidday John,

My grandfather never dropped the hood on my 1925 tourer, as he didn't want to crease it. When my father had the car, he too never dropped the hood. When he passed away, first thing I did was take off the roller blinds on the side and drop the hood. Different car! All those nasty gearbox noises sound much better. In winter, the warmth is drawn up through the floorboards, instead of the wind whipping around the back of your neck. And the view! What a difference. I now only drive the car with the hood down. At first I just tied it down with a piece of rope, but the wind would catch it and try and fill it like a sail. So I took it along to an Upholsterer who specialised in vintage type work, and he made me a cover for it, looks very neat. Cost me about $500 from memory, and he made it from scratch. Well worth it. I store the car with the hood up, but drop it when I head out, although with the full engine rebuild underway, it hasn't seen the road for 9 months now.

Cheers
