Guest erector
This is so much fun I thought I would ask a few more questions. #1 My carter carb seems to drain down if it sets for a while. Starts hard with a lot of pumping? #2 The transmission needs to come out because it scratches in 3rd and the rear seal is leaking, do I have to move the rear end back to do this? #3 Since I am redoing the trans I will replace the clutch disc (a little rough) and throw out bearing. Do I need to replace the pressure plate? Where do I get this stuff? #4 I plan on driving this car a lot and plan to put on a new set of radials. Is Coker my only choice? Thanks for the help!Ercell
Oxnard Montalvo
#1. I believe that's a common problem. My '38 Stromberg did that too.#2. Yes.#3. a)Why wouldn't you if you're already in there? Bob's Automobilia to start.#4. No. I went through Diamond Back Tires and was very happy with their radial product. There are others also.Don't you Google Ercell? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
critterpainter
Transmission. Check your shift linkage bushings and make sure they have minimal play. Trans parts are getting quite dear to come by. The torque ball is a common leak area and easy to fix on your car. Bobs is a good source.Bill
Guest erector
Thanks for help! I did figure out what was wrong with the carb. I had left it for a week in carb cleaner and that apparently ate some of the pot metal around the main jet. So out came the gas. I ordered a new one from Bob's, $295 ouch! Oh well. Someone has one on ebay for $150 starting bid, by the time I put a $60 kit in it, I just as well know what I'm getting.
Guest erector
Thanks Oxnard! Good advice! And yes I do Google but this is way more fun without having to go through 3 million hits. Besides I know I'm going to get the straight of it here.
Guest DaveCorbin
Be real careful about putting radial tires on your old rims. The pressure patterns are different and can cause rim failure. Wallace Wade Tires in Dallas handles anything you need in the way of tires. He's been in business at least 40 years, is a BCA member, and ships all over the world.
