Pontiac59
I picked up a solid, but bare cowl that we think is 29-30 Buick, closed car. It has NYS GVW stencils on it telling me it was last on the road in the 50's or 60's registered as a truck - but nothing much to ID it outright and my Buick book doesn't help on the cowl tag.The tag is a Body by Fisher, Detroit MI, with a job number of 8558 and a body number 1038 (the 3 could also be a 5, going by a digital pic taken in the dark here). It has small vent openings on each side and the top has a stamped in reverse scallop on each side, meeting in a point at what would be the hood centerline. Another way to describe this is if facing the firewall looking straight down, the shape is that of a V with curved sides that arc around to the beltline/windshield posts. This is probably headed into use as a "rat rod" cowl, but if I can figure out what it is it would make searching for some matching tin a little bit easier. Guest imported_Thriller
Here's a cowl from a '29 Model 51. I don't see it having some of the details as you describe.
Pontiac59
No reverse scallop pattern, no. Someone had a similar cowl on another board a while back but I can't remember what the post was titled to check it out - Oakland, Pontiac, Oldsmobile may be possibilities too.Did some digging and found an old eBay auction - 1929 Pontiac has that pattern, the visor even matches. Can anyone decode those numbers to a body style?
Fred Rawling
Check out some Dodges in the late 20's for that pattern.
