well on my '38 each brake light has its own wire which can be found inside the trunk at the rear and there is a "fuse holder" inline in the wire where the fuse is located. not sure about the headlights

Welcome to the forum. I have a 1936 40 Sedan. The fuse location depends on whether your car is an early or late production. The early production cars have an in-line fuse located near the headlight switch. The later production cars (like mine) have a fuse mounted directly on the headlight switch. It should be on the right hand side near the rear of the switch.
