Byromax Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 [color:"yellow"] Hello all.I replaced my computer with a up graded unit[high flow exhaust ect.]The car runs great in the gear its in then drops off for a long time even though its well within turbo spool. What really makes this fun is some times when you let of it continues to stay full out until you let it run its course or go into neutral and back in gear.[Three speed auto 8 Valve.]The cable is ant sticking its something else?Any advice would be great. Thanks all.
Guest Jeffn Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Check the pvc tubes on top of the rocker panel-mine pop off occaisionally and the thing idles at 2500. Maybe a wire tie or a hose clamp is needed.
Byromax Posted August 4, 2006 Author Posted August 4, 2006 Thanks, But the pcv hosea are new and clamped. The used to pop off under boost.
Willhelm Reichert Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 You might have 2 problems. For the staying full out, I had that many years ago. It was a cracked cruise housing. Not much fun when it goes to full boost while making a right turn pulling into traffic. Until you figure that part out, diconnect the vac line to the cruise and plug the line with a dowel or bolt. Or try tapping the brake next time. My cruise would only work with HIGH moisture in the air. It would seal the hairline crack.
Byromax Posted August 5, 2006 Author Posted August 5, 2006 My cruise works fine.Tapping the brakes doesnt do anything it stays all out even if I use the brakes to control my speed.
TwinCamFan Posted August 5, 2006 Posted August 5, 2006 When you say 'drops off and stays full out' do you mean you go from full acceleration to full deceleration? Kind of like you 'hit the wall'? That's called overboost The dreaded enemy of performance calibrations. Lots of ways to fool or fix it, you kight throw a boneyard MAP sensor at your probelm though. Yours may be just enough out of spec to trigger the overboost condition...Alan
Byromax Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 This problem comes and goes, I was under full throttle and let off the gas at around 75 and it continues to throttle. Then I hit the brakes.(still going)turn off all cruise while riding brakes.(still going)Get pissed off!(slam Brakes)and it stops full throttle.Im clueless a map senser doesnt sound right but ill try anything. Thanks again.Dan.
TwinCamFan Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I think I am starting to understand your lingo 'Full out' means the motor is still making power just like you have your foot on the gas when you don't, sounds a bit scary Is your throttle plate (inside the throttle body) closing when this happens/ Is the accel pedal stuck 'to the floor'? When you operate the pedal when the car is NOT running does it actuate smoothly. Could be a problem with the throttle body, the throttle cable, I've seen the floor carpet/mat obstruct the operation of the pedal as well.Only other thing that would make the engine stay 'full out' would be a great big vacuum leak but if that were the case, the RPMS would stay up but the power would be very low including the power while under boost. You mentioned the cruise was on when you had this problem once, how are the cruise on and you're at WOT at the same time? Still trying to understand your exact symptoms... Does the car run/drive normally otherwise? Fuel mileage about the same as usual?Alan
