OK, so I should rewire (1.) 22 DB and (2.) 1928 Vic6. Now What?

Thanks to all of you guys who have been trying to help. Now, I guess I just have to bite the bullet and rewire both of these cars. Where do I start? I know where the wiring diagram is.... How do I duplicate the harnesses, etc.? I know I can get wire, etc., from Romar, but I can't get them on the phone. What do I do with a big box of wires????? :-(

Anybody know of books, like "Rewiring old cars for Dummies"?

I would reccomend trying Rhode Island Wiring Service Inc. They sell all of the wire, connectors, loom and everything you need, they also sell full harness as well as they will manufacture a harness to your specs and needs, you can go to their website at riwire.com

I have used a variety of their products and have had nothing but positive experiences, and high quality merchandise. The folks you talk to on the phone are very helpful and polite. Hopefully this is helpful, Pep.

The 1922 does not have a wiring harness, I'm not sure about the Victory 6. For the '22 you do need a good working Clum switch and ammeter, plus the cutout needs to be working and adjusted for the system to operate efficiently. Romar may be on vacation or away at some flea market. Most of the time they do respond to phone calls. Accurate wire, connectors, clips, and looms are available from several sources. After you get the big box of wires just start replacing the old ones in a systematic way following the diagram.

On my 1923 DB, built in late '22, the lights and ignition lines are connected to the Clum switch and the long post on the ammeter. The starter switch is on the floor and has cutout breakers on the backside, as well as hookups to the starter/generator, battery and ignition. The horn switch is wired separately, horn to button/switch to ammeter. I'm writing this from late '90s memory when I last went through the system checking the wiring condition and installing a good ammeter. Based on the wiring diagram in the owner's manual, I believe this is accurate.

I guess it depends on your definition of a wiring harness. They do have a wiring loom and the material can be purchased rather inexpensive. I wrote an article for the Durant Club publication but I used the rewiring of my 23 Dodge as an example. Send me your email and I will send you the article. There are several recommendations I would make that deviate from the original. One add wire for a turn signal and use dual filement bulbs, two add a brake switch if you do not have one and three add a fuse block. The job is an easy one that everyone shoud do to avoid electrical problems.

Have a nice day. Hope this helps. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
