Does the 901 Sedan have an Adjustable (moves front to back) or Fixed (toolbox under seat) type seat?

Okay, on that type the complete seat assembly has to be removed from car so you can get to bottom side (more like modern seats). The wrap around side braces and back assembly have to be removed from base, from bottom side. In other words, the seat has to be Completely disassembled to get back fabric off.

Once you get the seat out of car and detached from slide assembly, you should be able to see the assembly points (screws and tacks) for bottom and back. Most seats of that era had Hide-um type tack strips (fabric-type) across the top of back, but I do remember seeing some with a metal strip there to hide tacks. If that is what you are asking about, then yes it definitely has to be removed before fabric can be removed.

You definitely don't want to try to do any repairs with seats in the car, you need to get it out on a work bench or table, making it much easier to work with.

I tryed to find pictures of a 901 with adjustable seats, but could not, so I can't give any detailed directions, Sorry. And I don't remember any of the regulars on this forum having experience with a 901 seats but maybe someone will show up.

First an apology; you sent me a private message and I never got around to replying. My bad! On these seats you will need to remove the curved, fabric covered "awning" which covers the top of the seat back from side to side. The material can then be removed to expose the fasteners that hold the sides of the seat frame to the center door pillars.

I'm still not sure which seat you are asking about, since you never said? I was talking about the adjustable seat and Restorer32 is talking about the fixed seat. Which is it that needs repairing? I'm usually a pretty good Mind Reader, but I guess you are a little Too far away.

Actually, when I put both answers together, it makes sense since the passenger side is fixed and the driver's side is adjustable. I have the seat bottom cushions out down to the frame, but got stuck when I couldn't find any attachments for the back. The metal strip across the top seemed to be the next step, but I couldn't figure out how to get it off. How do I remove that metal strip? (It was fabric covered at one time, but not now.) The entire interior needs to be re-upholstered. Thanks, Linda

They made all metal tack-strips during that era (about .5" long nails molded into cast aluminum). That's what was used on exterior of the top fabric of my coupe, so I'm guessing that may be what they used on seat back or something like it. So, if there are not any exposed screws or fasteners, it's probably a tack-strip, which is removed by using a flat-blade screwdriver and working the tacks out of the wood, by prizing up on the strip.
