Old Car Factory thread

Recommended Posts

I am posting this to let your members know of an ongoing, online project to document and photograph the remaining old car factories in the Detroit area. This has been going on since may and so far totals over 1,000 posts in 16 pages at the DetroitYES! forum.

We are using all available resources including the internet, local libraries and historical collections, including photos, and Sanborn fire insuarance maps. I am keeper of the database which lists over 300 locations of various automakers, coachbuilders, parts suppliers, and truck makers, which is far from complete.

If any of your forum member are interested in looking at, or have information to contribute, please visit the OCF thread at:

Thanks, and I hope some can contribute new info to this web juggernaut.

OK, finally got registered, I was hoping to avoid joing another forum, as I seem to have to many to followup on, but I figure that I've put so much time into the OCF thread, that this forum seems to be the place to gather more information, or to make its members aware of this behemoth.

The question I have is where would be place to post this topic, in the General Antique Vehicle Discussion forum, or can an administrator move it to the appropriate area?

Thank you for registering, Hornwrecker. Good-to-Go!

Very interesting website. Great photos.

Moved thread to the General Forum as it fits well.

Thanks for the welcome. I should add that if anybody has a question dealing with any old Detroit auto factory, I'd be more than happy to try and find the answer, or post the question to the OCF thread.

I've been concentrating on the brass cars, as there seems to be more confusion as to the factories then. Detroit went through a major renumbering of their street addresses in the early 1920s, so many early marques have multiple locations numbers, even if they never moved.

Also if anyone has, or knows the locations of any early photos of any Detroit area auto factories, I would be grateful to be able to add them to the OCF thread.

If anyone has any questions to post, or info to add to the OCF thread, or wants a copy of the OCF(working) database in Xcel format (64k), please email me at my username at gmail.com, or use this thread.

I hope that I'll be able to spend some time in your forum, and participate in any Detroit automaker history threads.

  • 2 weeks later...

There has been a flurry of activity this week on the OCF thread, so a new page was added changing the link number. I've added over 20 old photos of various Hupp factories, most correctly identified for a change, a lot of information about various Chrysler facilites, some new, old photos of the Cadillac Clark St plant, and lastly a bunch of new photos and information from forum member lking about the King Car Co., thanks lking.
