jlmizell
Does anyone know(looking from the top) which spark plug wire should go to number 1 cylinder on a 394 engine in a 1963 Olds 88? Thanks
dlh61olds
Set the #1 cylinder at top dead center on compression. Remove the distibutor cap. See where the rotor is pointed and use that wire for #1 spark plug.Follow the firing order and you should be O.K. This procedure will allow for a distributor that is not installed exactly right. Otherwise you can follow the instructions in the manual and reinstall the distributor to spec's .The above procedure works with any engine.Good luck with your project, DaveHope this helps
rocketraider
Looking at the firewall from the front of the car, at the top of the cap- #1 lead should be installed on the tower immediately to right of the latch screw at the front of the cap. Also remember that firing order on the early Rocket is [color:"red"]1-8-7-3-6-5-4-2, CCW rotation.I can't tell you how many people I've known to use the 65-later 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 and couldn't understand why the car would barely run.
