Reg,

Before answering your query it will be necessary to ask for what vintage period do you refer? In the '30s the commercial engines were black while the passenger cars were silver. I'm not sure how far this continued. My '34 DR that I used to own had silver while my '34 KC pickup was definately black.

Well Rodger,

This question came up on the P15-D24 forum and some members there were pretty sure that all years of the flathead six for Dodge and Plymouth were silver. Among my collection of Dodges is a 1942 3 window coupe. It came to me with an all black engine so I was wondering if maybe some of the engines during WW2 might have been done that way.
