taskytaskerson
I started my '89 up the other morning and heard a sizzling in the dash and the computer screen flickered a few times and then went blank. Soon after I smelled that burnt circuit board smell and smoke was coming out from behind the screen. Since than, whenever I start the car I smell the same smell and smoke appears. The screen remains blank. any input?
comp142
Not trying to be flip but the obvious reply is you have fried a circuit board controlling the CRT. What bothers me the most though is it continues to emit smoke when powered up. Personally I would not start it again until I had tore into the dash to see what's going on in there. Best case on something like this is a component burns up you lose function and await repairs. With continued smoke and burning smell you are having power is still moving through the system at least continuing to damage circuits at worst causing damage to other systems and possibly even causing a fire. Jim
On the first Reatta I owned I had the same problem and had to replace the CRT/touch screen.I now have several Reatta parts cars and have a good CRT/touch screen available.I can be reached at jfinn@cpinternet.com
