Cannot Remove Dist Gear Pin

If you are not in a hurry, I would try something like Liquid Wrench a rust disolver. I would spray a little on it each day for about a week. On the last day, spray it again, have a beer and then heat it with a propane torch. Make sure it doesn't get too hot and then use a proper sized pin punch/hammer and try to gently knock it out.

I have been sucessful with the above procedure.

It is tough to drill it out straight unless you have a drill press and V-Blocks

The pin looks like it is "one" with the shaft. When I ground the ends off, it appears as if there is no pin at all. I really have to look hard to tell where the pin is, as opposed to the shaft itself.

Should I grind some more? I'm at/below the surface of the shaft already. I don't see what is holding this thing in place.

Adam, since you're going to the machine shop tomorrow anyway, do yourself a favor and take it with you and have them press it out. Constant pressure tends to get things to move that don't want to move. (My professional opinion as a Machinist). Carl

The machine shop pressed the pin out of the shaft today. It took me a few minutes to get the gear off! It was stuck on there pretty well. All is smooth sailing from here....

Paul, I THINK I have found everything. If I end up short on these little detail parts, I'll call ya. See you on Sunday. cool.gif
