Guest imported_PWN
I need to replace the babbits on a 1922 Royal Dispatch - Marvelous Motor. Some questions:Anyone removed pistons/head before? Can you remove pistons without taking off head? - does not appear likely.Anyone use Vintage Engine in Spokane? Are piston rings readily available or fabricated?Anything I need to be aware of?Thanks for any info.Peter
Guest imported_PWN
Well I have removed one of the split heads. If was very easy, the manifold came off easily and so did the 6 large bolts that afix the head. I will be sending the rods off for new bearings. Have not decided where to send, likely Vintage Engine. The pistons look near pristine and so do the cylinders. I am curious as to why the babbits would have gone bad in only 10,000 miles. My Grandfather mentioned that the previous owner over tightened the bearings.Things to do in the meantime include bead blasting or wire brushing and painting the manifold and heads. Creating a new gasket and cleaning out the coolant area of the head. There is some corrosion and I think that it was causing the car to overheat slightly. That's about it for now.Peter
