1946 Lincolns are easy to differentiate from '47-'48. 1946 has a winged "V" hood ornament, blue faced gauges, and the word "LINCOLN" in block letters in an octagonal shaped area in the center of the hubcap. However, some EARLY 1947 models also have these characteristics. (Ford liked to use up extra parts)

1947-48 are very nearly identical and have the "ball and spear" hood ornament, silver faced gauges, and "LINCOLN" in script across the hubcaps. As a cost-cutting measure, 1948 Lincolns have plain rear hubcaps without the script. You can't see the script when the fender skirts are on, so why spend money to produce it?

If you are a member of the Lincoln Continental Owners Club, their directory has the VINs of all their member?s cars. This makes it easy to segregate the year models. My LCOC directory is in such a safe place, I can't find it!

I'll help you out on the serial numbers. The serial number will be stamped on the frame next to the left front engine mount.

Serial numbers are as follows:

1946: H136,225 to H152,839

1947: 7H152,840 to 7H174,289

1948: 8H1174,290 to 8H182,129

Hope this helps
