Guest waxbgone
The shift lever on my 90 convert does not latch securely into position. It can easily be moved from neutral to reverse without pushing the button. Since I have the console trim off, I decided to fix the problem. The manual shows removing the console, which proved not to be as easy as the manual infers. Instead of removing the console, I removed the 4 nuts that hold the shifter mechanism to the floorboards, and I was able to lift the shifter a little. I found that the mechanism is plastic, and probably will need to be replaced.Has anyone made this repair? Does anyone have replacement parts for sale? Any advice? jimustanguitar
There is a factory safety recall concerning this. You might set up an appointment at a buick dealer to have this repaired free of charge. Double check that you have the same problem though, if you do a google search for safety recall you should get a few sites, alldata also has a list of them, and autozone.com has a list if you do their online registration.
