R. Kapral
I have a 1970 El Camino that came from the dealership with a tonneau cover. My question is, at the Hershey Show should the cover be taken off the vehicle or should it be left on? The order slip shows that it was put on at the dealership before the vehicle was delivered. Will I lose points for this and if so will I lose less points if the cover is on or off.ThanksBob Kapral Member #003201
Jay Wolf
I think that would come down to ?was it a GM Dealer installed option? or ?was it and after market part the dealer installed before deliver?.Does it have a GM part number? If it is a GM part there should be no deductions (in my opinion)If you remove it are there snaps? If no snaps remove it.If is has snaps may be better to just be docked for the cover as apposed to being docked one point a piece for all the snaps. Peter J.Heizmann
Hi, Bob...Welcome to the AACA Forum.I have a '72 Triumph TR-6. The tonneau came with the car. Though the top does not apply to you, I leave the top up for judging and have the cover with me should a judge ask to see it. The cover is part of the car's equipment. Similar scenario for the old iron that have side curtains. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />Regards, Peter J. R. Kapral
Hi Jay, Thanks for the info the cover on the truck is a replacement, the original one was done at the dealership ( on copy of original order blank) Should I leave it on at Hershey? What would point deductionbe 15 pts? Should I make the Captian of the judging team aware of it when they start to judge the vehicle? Thanks for your imput.Bob
Jay Wolf
A replacement of the same type as the factory would be acceptable and no points. The question is was the "original" part GM or aftermarket. The replacement doesn't have to be GM, just of the same type. Could the vehicle have left the Factory with a cover of the same type? That is the question. If you have anything GM printed that shows a cover of the type you have on it there should be no deduction. As far as if it is aftermarket, how much of a deduction, I'll have to look it up. As far as the snaps I would go 1 point a piece o a max of 5.I think every judge would do it a little different and the important judge is the Team Captain
