Kerry Lange
I have the factory Delco AM/FM/CB radio in my '81 Regency that functioned well until recently. Now the FM functions on mono only, instead of stereo. I can temporarily correct this by quickly turning the radio off and on, or by turning the selector from FM to AM and back again. This only lasts for a few seconds to several minutes before the stereo light goes out and the radio returns to Mono. Do I need a rebuild, or is this something i can handle myself? Thanks.Kerry
Art161
I would try spraying some contact cleaner on the switches.
rocketraider
The 1981 radio is simple to remove, so you can remove it and take it to a radio repair shop. If you don't have one close by, I recommend Todd Electronic Radio Service in Greensboro NC, 336-292-1227.

rocketraider
It's like the 1966 98 LS I inherited as my first car. It was fully loaded as most LS were, and the Wonderbar radio and power trunk amazed people (had to keep the glovebox locked to keep the trunk from flying open going down the road). What I had the most fun with was the Tilt-Telescopic wheel. I'd get a bunch of half wacked buds in there (hay, it WAS the 70s), unscrew the lock ring and start pulling the wheel toward me. A first time rider would almost always lose it and start screaming "he's taking the steering wheel off, we're gonna die!" Scott- do you still want that Jetstar I stuff? Or are you going to sell the car?
decembro
United Radio does "factory" rebuilds on radios. When I worked at various GM dealers, we sent them out to United and they returned the unit completely refurbished for about $100. I would contact my local GM dealer and see what they have to say about it or contact United radio directly. Sorry , I don't have the 800 number onhand. Good luck.
