fhr069
i am currently replacing the headliner in my Buick and have run into a problem. the tack strip that runs the length of the "roof" is old and brittle. When you try and nail a tack into tack strip , it crumbles or cracks. Can this stuff be replaced? Is so , were can I get some? is there a suitable replacement that will work? Any help would be welcome !thanks again

Charles2
I think what you need are the fiber tack strips that are held in place by bent-over metal tabs. They are about 3/8" wide by 1/4" thick. If so, you should be able to get replacements at any auto upholstery wholesaler. Check at a local auto upholstery shop for the nearest supplier. Failing that, try Hampton Coach or LeBonney-Barron. To replace, bend out the tabs, remove old strip, install new strip and hammer the tabs down again. Use 3-M yellow weatherstrip cement if there is a broken tab. Good luck. old-tank
A local uphostery supply had tack strips that were plastic and worked well. In the past I have glued together strips of card board to get the desired thickness and that worded well.Good luck on your project.Willie
