tomwallace
I have a 1911 cadillac that is ready for painting the wooden body. The wood is very dry with a lot of "open pores". The wood is solid. I have read in some forums that some restorers use an epoxy type sealer. The sealer is suppose to soak into the wood and strengthen it. It supposedly gives the wood a good hard surface for paint.Anyone have any thoughts or words of wisdom?
InMyMerryOLDSMOBILE
Hi Tom,I have a 1903 Curved Dash Olds, I recommend using West Marine epoxy (for wood boats). It worked very well for me. You can mix it to any consistency you need (brush it on or use a bondo spreader. Once you have a few coats on you can block sand and switch over to an automotive system. I prefer PPG products. Be sure you buy the instruction book for wood boats. It will come in handy. Neil
trimacar
Hi- go to www.westsystem.com ; this is a two part epoxy used for boat finishing and repair, it is the best thing out there for sealing wooden structure, West System; I used it on my 1910 Buick Model 16 and it is great. good luck David Coco
