TexRiv_63
For sale on Ebay right now: Original large DeSoto chrome and enamel hood badge emblem insignia nameplate. The DeSoto was built from 1928 to 1960 by Chrysler Corporation in Detroit. Online research indicates this type of emblem was used on the hood center from 1946 to 1948 but I do not know exact year, model or application for this example. Badges like these were made using the champleve or guilloche process of heat bonding melted glass to a copper base which was then plated. This is a two-piece emblem, the diecast chrome ornament is 10 5/8" wide by 2 7/16" high. The separate enamel crest emblem is 8 1/2" wide by 1 3/4" high with translucent red enamel and gold or bright brass plating. Both pieces are sharply swept back side to side from the center. The chrome base has PN 11492259, 7197, and DPCD logo on back, the gold emblem has PN 6916, the DPCD logo, and maker's mark "D.L. AULD CO. COL. O." on back. Good to very good used condition, no bends, dents, cracks or other physical damage. There are some minor scratches and nicks and one small enamel chip, balance of enamel is very nice. The chrome on the ornament is excellent with a few pit marks, the gold plating on the emblem shows some wear. Both threaded mounting bosses are intact with hardware and useable.
