Dave Mellor NJ Posted April 1 Share Posted April 1 Model As originally came with a cast iron separator in the fuel line on the firewall. Many people replace them with a glass bowl filter. When I bought my 31 pickup I was having trouble occasionally. When I come to a stop it would stall out and wouldn't restart. Check all the usual stuff no dice. After letting it sit it would start but I was afraid to take it out. Near home I stalled and couldn't get it started.I was about to call for a tow when I tried draining said separator. Voila it started. Apparently it gets filled with water and when you come to a quick stop a squirt of water goes into the carb making all kinds of problems. The reason I'm telling you this is that ship that hit the bridge in Baltimore. They said it stopped running from tainted fuel and the filters were clogged.
