There are several possibilities.  The most immediate thought is the rubber seal is broken or missing alltogether.  But let me just say that folks on this forum like to give pertinent answers rather than guessing at the situation. That being said, a picture of the area in question would likely get better replies as to what can be the problem. A generic question like you pose presumes someone is familiar with your individual car, but I am sure that is not the case here.
