John N. Packard
I'm restoring the left front door on my '54 Packard and note in disassembling it that a putty like compound is used in several places, presumably to prevent water leaks. Is there a readily available product to renew this stuff?jnp
Guest Randy Berger
John, it sounds like you're referring to dum-dum, which to the best of my knowledge, is still available at body-shop supply stores. I used it to seal the roof chrome on the 400.YFAM, Randy Berger
Restorer32
Ask for "paintable seam sealer".
John N. Packard
Thanks for responding. I ordered 3-M strip caulk from Restoration Specialties today. It is paintable and looks like it will do the job of sealing several spots on the door.jnp
Guest Albert
Are you talking about the undercoating on the inside of the fenderwell and behind the headlight? I use the 14oz can of paintable underbody coating through an underbody spray gun as it giver the same texture as the original, was also used on some parts of the frame and in the trunk of my 54 Packard Clipper Special. Dumdum was used around the mounting screws for the trim for the windshield and around screws for the body moldings not on the spring clips on the body molding.. John N. Packard
Al, It's the mounting screws and rain gutter that are my primary concern. Also the NORS wing window seal is not a perfect fit. Specifically where the lower post penetrates the seal.jnp
