Recent Buys for My 1/64 Scale Car Collection

Recommended Posts

Last weekend I asked my wife to drive me to our local farm toy/ miniature vehicles store here in Lititz PA.  It’s called Outback Toys (they sell online too). Besides farm related toys they carry the Johnny Lightning and Greenlight brands of 1/64 cars and trucks plus some very expensive scale vehicles.  I just wanted 2 cars, one for me and the one my adult son requested.  Simple,  buy two cars and out the door…almost😀
First is the car to get for my son, a 24 Hours of Lemons race car replica by Johnny Lightning.  My son and his Tesla engineer buddies bought and built a car to race this series that features cars bought for little $$$ to complete for fun.   Their first race was at Sonoma raceway in CA this past December.  Pics are of their car a BMW #69 and the Johnny Lightning car he wanted.  The JL car would be in the same class as his entry.

Next was the car I wanted, a 1957 Plymouth done in Pikes Peak racing layout and featuring appropriate decals for the era.  I “needed it” because how many racing 1957 Plymouth replicas have you seen, especially one done so well.  There are five cars in this series, this one is the oldest car.  Next oldest is a 1967 Chevrolet Impala which is nicely done too.

At this point I should be done shopping, right?  Well….they have a whole wall of cars and trucks to choose from and there was the next one to catch my eye, a 1963 Chevrolet Impala NASCAR race car.  I’m a big Chevy fan and a 1960s race car fan so in the basket that one goes.

I’m still looking at the cars on the wall and the next one I spot is this 1982 Corvette pace car for Nazareth Raceway. It has an RSCA decal on it for Reading (PA) Stock Car Association, a big well known raceway that was king of the 1/2 mile dirt tracks in the area. Nostalgia kicks in and that one too goes in the basket.

Next, two more items from the bargain bin are added.  One is a little different, it’s people in 1/64 scale to use in my diorama layouts.  Bargain price on them as list was closer to $13.  Followed that up with the red 1964 Thunderbird that was on sale for $4.77.  That was it!  I had to leave before that wall of cars drew me in to buy a few more.  Besides, it gives me an excuse to come back another day.
