Don Young
Recently purchased a really nice 58 Olds Super 88. The negative battery cable has been replaced with a modern cable attached only to the engine. I have what I believe is a correct reproduction flat braided negative battery cable which has an additional boss along the length of the cable suggesting it is attached at a 2nd location in addition to the engine block. The parts & service manuals I have do not show the negative battery cable routing. Looking for suggestions on where this attaches as I'm wondering if the same cable serves as the body to engine ground strap. The car does not have a/c. The 55er
Not exactly 100% sure on a 1958 but I'm thinking if there is an extra boss with a hole in it near the middle of the battery cable it's to attach it to the lower section of the battery box. There should be a smaller braided strap located on the rear of one of the cylinder heads to ground the engine to the firewall.
Don Young
This is a big help. I noticed the area on the side of the battery tray I thought might have been for the ground cable so I'll see if it will reach there.
