Hello all, new to the club, a couple questions. Is there a complete repair manual for a 1930 model 145 town sedan? I am looking for information regarding how to pull the engine and rebuilding instructions, thanks, Jim Brown.

The owner's manual is surprisingly complete. It is available as a reprint and online from the HH Franklin Club. There are no instructions for pulling the engine. If you have not already, join the HH Franklin Club. We have almost every piece of documentation available to our members on our website. Franklin engines are quite different from most anything else. Ask questions, and you will get many answers from our group experts. I also suggest you join our Facebook group which is very active. https://www.facebook.com/groups/251339938628026/

Welcome, J.

Take lots of pictures before you start in with tools, so you'll know what went where.

Mark the drive shaft rear flange and front slip-joint so they can go back in exactly the same rotational alignment with their mating parts, or you might get driveshaft vibration later on.

Disconnect the battery.

Remove front seat base, toe, and floorboard.

Undo the battery and power feed cables from the foot starter switch.

Undo the speedometer cable from the transmission.

Remove screws from toe/floorboard cross brace and take brace out.

Unbolt the bracket for the brake master cylinder from the transmission.

Unfasten the parking brake linkage.

Unfasten the brake and clutch pedal return springs.

Disconnect the backing light wires from the transmission switch.

Remove the shaft handle and tower from the trans.

Open hood and remove cotter and clevis pins from front end of grill shell truss rod.

Disconnect the link rod for the grill shutters.

Remove the headlights and license plate bar.

Rock grill shell forward and remove hood hinge from cowl and grill shell to remove the hood.

Unfasten the grill shell trunnion cap nuts. Lift out the springs and ball socket seats under the nuts.

Lift grill shell out.

Undo ignition and generator wires, and oil pressure gauge copper line.

Undo fuel line at fuel pump.

Undo choke cable, foot and hand throttle linkages at the carburetor.

Unbolt the engine pipe from the exhaust gas heater above the carburetor.

Use a hoisting leveler with the engine hoist. Run hoist straps under engine behind oil pan and between oil pan and fan box.

Remove bolts from all four motor mounts.

Using the hoist leveler, you'll need to tip the front of the engine up and toward the driver's side fender as it comes out to let the left rear motor mount clear the steering box. Yes, it will clear with the steering box still in place - done it many times.

Reverse above to reinstall.
