McManisW
I just bought a ‘54 Special 48D project. It’s missing all of the rear brake components, drums and all. As per the shop manual that was included in the purchase, the rear brakes are 12” diameter and 1.75” wide for this model. I have the opportunity to purchase drums, shoes and hardware for the model 50/60 which are 12” X 2.25”. Is it possible to use this setup as a direct swap in place of the narrower OE setup while still using the original backing plates? Thanks.
old-tank
The backing plates will need to be changed which involves pulling the axles shafts out. This gives you a chance to change the rear axle seals and inspect your gears.
