TheOlds
Greetings all new to the site and I had a question. My wife and I are trying to identify which type of engine we have in our new 1962 Oldsmobile Super 88. Relocated. The engine number I have attached a photo. Thank you so much in advance for your help.
rocketraider
G indicates 1962 model year. Red generally indicates a high-compression engine but since there are no letter suffixes behind the engine number, my guess is it's the 330hp 4-barrel 10.25:1 compression 394 with single exhaust which was standard in Super 88s and Ninety Eights. Recommend purchase of the factory Chassis Service Manuals for your Olds. You have to get the 1961 and 1962 books for complete coverage of the 1962 car. Original paper copies- reprints, CD-ROM and pdf copies lose critical detail. A membership in the Oldsmobile Club of America and/or the National Antique Olds Club is a good investment too.
