Have recently finished up other projects and am starting on my 65 riviera. While investigating the engine I believe I have come across a #s matching 425 in a non  gs car that does not have dual carbs. Does such a beast exist? Did someone in its past change out the manifold to put on the single 4 barel carb ? Any info would be much appreciated I am learning these buiks are a very different animal compared to their chevrolet cousins.

I’m only going on what the article that was written for the Riview titled “How to ID a Gran Sport.”  The Gran Sport (option A9) had the A8 engine option ( LX production code, dual Carter AFB carburetors, a distributor with a different curve - band #1111058, finned valve covers, and a different diameter a/c compressor pulley.) A BS coded ST400 transmission, a 3.42 positive traction rear end, and special badging.  The H2 handling option was not part of the Gran Sport option.

There were 454 Rivieras built in 1965 that came with the A8 engine option that were not Gran Sports.

Take it from there. Hopefully someone can figure out what you have.

Post some pictures of the rest of the car, and see if you can post the casting number for the intake manifold, carburetor number, and the number on the band of the distributor.
