Todd Puzey
Getting to know my 1925 sedan and I thought since I am doing a full service on the engine that I might as well check the valve lash. Flipping through the shop manual for 4 cylinder engines and I want to confirm, without pulling the head which valves are intake and which are exhaust by looking through the side access panel. I know on flathead 6’s they alternate on each cylinder (intake, then intake, exhaust then exhaust etc to the rear of the engine). Can someone set me straight on which valves are which so that I can check the lash?
Minibago
Just take a look at your exhaust manifold Todd, the ports line up with the valves.

Mark Gregush
Valve lash needs to be set with engine up to operating temp. At .004 and .005 clearance, the valves will expand in length too and close that gap up if done cold.
