27 Nash water pump

I recently purchased a 27 Nash that had been sitting for decades. I put fresh gas,oil, tune up and a new battery. She fired up right a way but when { revved her up there was a knocking like a broken rod.After a lot of figuring I found a 1/2 inch of play in the fins that drive the water and when I pull the fan in and out I frond the knocking an this be adjusted out?
