Mr Buick
In my 1969 Buick sales book, it states the Riviera had H70-15 wide oval tires available. What is a "wide oval tire"? Is it a white letter tire or a different type of white wall? Would the car look nice with a set of BF Goodrich TA's on it? Need your help. <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />Thankssimonson2@charter.net
rtabish
i think the wide ovals were a firestone tire, found stock on a lot of cars [ford, GM, and mopar] back then. depending on what car you got you could get rwl or whitewall. but i am sure the riv had whitewalls. G and H "sized" tires were pretty tall, H being wider than G. i believe the corrisponding modern replacement would be a 235 or 245. as to what you should put on, some nice, tastefull T/As or daytona [less expensive]block white letter tires look better than the raised outline letter tires some places want to pass off as performace tires. Philippe Racicot
My 67 Riviera GS has the "wide oval redline tire" option. It still has the original spare wich is a "Goodyear Speedway H-70-15 redline" and not the similar Firestone Wide Oval. The "wide oval" option does not refer to the Wide Oval brand, but to the style of the tires. However, I don't know if the 1969 models used the same tires as in 1967 or if the Firestone tires were also available in 1967.
