yes...go for the gears.

Also, TA Performance sells headers for the 350...throw a set of those on with some walker dynaflow mufflers and you're in business.

A recurve of the distributor will help. Maybe HEI to make the ignition more stable.

TA212 cam...pretty mild but is a good cam for people who drive a lot.

the cheapest and easiest things to do would be to put on an open air cleaner and a more open type exhaust on. you are limited by the 2bbl carb, but you can run it a little richer than stock by changing metering jets and advancing the timing about 5 to [sometimes] 10 degress. you will actually get better performance off the line if you have a full length exhaust instead of chopping the pipes off at the engine. if you can't afford to put on a full dual exhaust system you can go to a larger single exhaust with a free flowing muffler. just remember you need some back presure in the exhaust system to insure proper flow from the heads and help your torque curve. torque is where a buick engine gets its best power vs. high rpm's in some other engines, and 2bbl carbs work well in the low rpm range. just think of the engine as a big air pump and the easier it "breaths" the more efficient {powerfull] it will be.

Sir,

4bbl manifold, dual exhaust and recurved distributer will help dramatically. These are bolt on modifications that can be done on a Saturday. Go for a free flow muffler...Flowmaster or Straightline Performance mufflers. Don't skimp on the mufflers.

If you have time and money... install an aftermarket camshaft in addition to the above. If you have more time and money... pull the motor and have it bored, balanced and blueprinted. Go for 9.5 - 10:1 compression ratio. Yes, and gears.

Lots of books available to guide your way. Call T/A Performance and request a catalog. Read Steven Dove's book on Buick motors.

Hope this helps, Matt
