Royal Doulton motoring ceramics question

Recommended Posts

Automobilia collectors are very familiar with the "Motorist" series pieces produced by Royal Doulton.  Their plates, pitchers, tankards, and other pieces have been widely collected for many years.  This is an item though I'd not seen before. I cannot find any information on it.  It's a small cup just over 2" in height, and about 3 1/8" diameter.  It's called "The Wise Motorist."  Depicted on one side is an early vehicle hauling a horse, and it has a cute inscription on the side as shown in the pictures.   The way it is worded, and the reference to "Dakota" leads me to believe that although it was made by Doulton in England, it was done for the American market.  Perhaps intended as a wedding souvenir?  The markings on the base indicate it was produced between 1905-06.  Does anyone have any similar examples?  Are their any other pieces decorated with this or similar images (Plates, bowls, etc.)?
