Brendan M.
I am trying to remove the gas tank on my '39 Ford woody and am starting to think the car was built around the tank and it can't be removed. I've disconnected everything, removed the fuel filler, removed the pads that go between the tank and frame, disconnected the wire to the top of the tank. I've moved it every which way I can but can't get close to getting it out. Any advice?
46 woodie
Brendan, I don't have a '39 as yours, my Woodie is a 1946 Ford and I have removed my gas tank fairly easy. I can't imagine Ford building a car that won't allow the removal of the gas tank. Can you post a few pictures?
Brendan M.
Not sure if these pics will be helpful. Still cannot figure out how to get this tank out. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Rexville48
Brendan, On a 37 passenger car, the gas tank filler neck is connected to the tank with a sleeve that unscrews allowing the metal neck to be removed. Once the neck is removed, the tank will slide to one side with barely enough clearance to allow it to drop between the frame rails. Since I’m not a Ford guy You might want to search the FordBarn because the process for a 39 may be similar. Mike
Brendan M.
Thanks. I have a ‘35 Ford sedan and that has a filler neck that screws in but my ‘39 wagon does not. It’s fixed in place.
