Guest
My '89 has been putting out a noxious burning odor for a few months. Does this sound like a toasted cat or maybe just "O2" sensor? When stopped in traffic the odor can overwhelm. If it is the cat causing the problem is this a replacement or can they be evacuated through a drain plug? I've never looked at mine closely. Thanks for any suggestions. P.S. It seems to have affected the around town mileage drastically.
Guest Buick Mike
If it smells like rotten eggs, it's your cat. They can't be flushed or anything like that... time for a new one.Mike
waltmail
Okay. It does have the smell of rotten eggs if you can get past the burning acid smell. It will cause large quantities of Murine to be used.
padgett
Rotten eggs :: sulphur dioxide. This and sulphuric acid mist is not a normal engine exhaust component but is the result of a fuctioning catalytic converter and an over rich engine mixture. Two most likely culprits:- engine running open loop- faulty (but not failed) 02 sensor. Guest
Could it be that the PCV is plugged?
