JUSTIN
With all the discussion about points vs HEI or Pertronix, I havent seen anyone mention a MPG change after switching systems. Does anyone have real numbers of changes?
Guest
Hi Justin. Check out my reply to this in the "stock dist. vs rebuilt types" in this section. I gave some real world figures. Points are fine if you putt around to car shows and trailer your car around. I drive mine to enjoy it. The conversion is the best if you drive it on weekends and in season. I respect people who have all kinds of show cars and don't put any miles on them. I buy models to put on a shelf to look at but to spend big money on a car just to drive it 200 miles a year is a rich man's hobby. Don't worry too much about some judges obsessions with NOS either. These judges are the same ones who turn us down because they don't offer preservation awards at that meet. You add one part that's not NOS and your "Modified" Add a new paint job up against an original finish and the new paint job wins. It's still flash over preservation. Do what's best for you because you are the only one who really cares about your car. Your mpg are always better with electronic ignition. Good luck! imported_peedenmark7
hi guys, you have piqued my curiosity, I am basically a purist when it comes to originalitly on my gs cars ,but on the convert gs I just bought it has a true hei dist. in it,love the way it runs, but it interferes with the way the ram air sits on the carb so it needs to go,I was lucky enough to get the original distributor and was going to reinstall it. ...I have looked at the ignitor system in the past but never really gave it much thought till now.... so what is all involved in the installation of this unit, I know I will have an extra wire? but I will use an original distributor correct?? your thoughts? thanks, john
