Booreatta
finally got around to see what was going on with my light switch, the dash lights would not come on unless the fog lights were on so thanks to everyone here i finally took it apart. when igot the switch out there were several bare wires one was black and one was orange and one was yellow with a purple stripe. i taped all of the wires and sprayed contact cleaner on the switch and guess what everything works,,,also the headlight retract also started to workthey must somehow be tied in togather. i still dont see the value of the headlight retract switch but im sure it has a purpose. my seat still dont work but thats another story boy this car has a lot of wires i really wonder if they ALL somewhere surelythey do
Howard
The purpose of the switch is to pop the lights up while you are washing the car so the lights get clean. The switch is handy in winter during periods of ice or snow. By keeping the lights up, they can't freeze in the down positon. Howard
K Howie
I have the exact same problem with my 89 Reatta (dash lights not coming on unless foglights are on). Which switch did you take out....the headlights on switch or the fog lights switch? I need to try the same thing you did. Thanks!
Booreatta
i took out the headlight switch and cleaned it up. the first thing i did was find a doner car in a salvage yard, i this case it was an 89 riviera and got the switch and i took that one apartto see how it was made, reallly simple, then i took mine apart and did the same thing and presto it works like new. i did repair the wires also. now i am taking the whole dash apart and going to clean up all the contacts on all the switches to avoid any trouble.
