The drivers side door post.

Yikes! (how did they get it off...it is spot welded in place).

No blank reproductions since that is a legal 'document'.

If your car title shows the number on the plate, check with the state with a sad story and maybe get a state issued replacement.  If your car was titled by the engine number (common in those days), then you don't need it except for cosmetics --- a used one from any 55 Super will work (if you can get it off) but do a title search on the replacement to be certain it is not from a stolen car.

You will not need any of this unless you sell the car or have to prove ownership.

My state (Texas) used engine numbers in those days and I know of more than a few people that removed and discarded the original engine before getting the state to verify.

The case of the missing serial plate on my 1955 Buick Super is solved. I was looking at the wrong location  on the drivers door frame. The VIN plate , although painted over, is exactly where it should be. In spite of 60 plus years of involvement with antique motor vehicles, at 86 years of age  I seem to know less and less.
