Guest Posted January 16, 2001 Share Posted January 16, 2001 Does anyone know where I can get a dual<BR>action fuel pump for a 57 Buick with a<BR>396cid. I spent some money rebuilding the<BR>vacuum wiper motor and would like to hook it <BR>up where it is supposed to go, the fuel pump.<BR>I'm not looking for advice on where else to<BR>hook it up. Guest Posted January 16, 2001 Share Posted January 16, 2001 hello. i know CARS in new jersey sell duel action fuel pumps. i got one for my 55 from there, i do not know if they sell them for 57s, i would imagine they do. but for mine i had to have a core or pay something like 50 or 70$. mindy. The Old Guy Posted January 16, 2001 Share Posted January 16, 2001 A 57 Buick is 364 CI and was the first V8 Buick to run a single action pump . There is not enough room for a dual action pump. The 57 had a vacuum pump that was attached to the oil pump in the pan and I think if you don't have enough vacuum you would be better off installing an electric wiper motor . the electric unit from a 57 Chev is a bolt on replacement. capgage Posted January 16, 2001 Share Posted January 16, 2001 On my 58, there are two lines running to the wiper motor. One from the vacuum pump in the oil pan, and one from the intake.<P>These vacuum pumps usually break, or at least the key that drives them does. However, I have found that there is enough vacuum from the manifold to keep the wipers going (at least when NOT under acceleration)<P>One tip- Plug one of the two ports on the vacuum motor if you go with only manifold vacuum. Otherwise, your wiper motor essentially becomes a series-connected member of a PCV system (without a valve)! Your vacuum lines will become saturated with oil and oil fumes as your manifold vacuum pulls them out of the broken vacuum pump, through the wiper motor, and into the manifold.<P>Mark Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
