1929 Standard 6 Carburetor Conversion Question

All,

I'm new to this forum and new to restoration.

I'm working with a couple of folks to help me rebuild a 1929 29-27 with a Standard 6 engine. We have decided to flip the manifold 180 degrees and replace the original Marvel carburetor with a single downdraft carburetor. I've read the earlier forums, as this is not a new topic on this forum, but I'm hoping for more details and perhaps up to date information including what carburetor and related relevant specifications that we need to be aware of.

I know that this topic was also covered in the 29 Buick Silver Aniversary Edition Newsletter Volume 24, Issue 4, page 13 from Bill McLaughlin and the 1929 Buick Club, but he is not active, not responding to emails, or updating his website (I fear that he is gone).

This is what I've learned from earlier posts:

1) Flip the manifold 180 degrees

2) Acquire and mount an adapter plate. It would be helpful if someone had suggestions on where and what specifically to acquire.

3) Use an earlier model (1940's to 1950's) single downdraft carburetor (Carter YF, Rochester BC). It would be helpful if we had a specific model recommended.

4) Donor and Recipient engine CID should be within 3% in displacement. I have a displacement of 239.1 for this engine. Is this correct?

5) We need to be thoughtful about the Venturi diameter with a target rpm that is similar to the Standard 6. Any details on this topic would be helpful.

I'm concerned I may be missing some other vital information/recommendations.

Any information that you can provide would be deeply appreciated.

If anyone has done this with this engine, we would be grateful for photographs and an opportunity to communicate with you directly to guide us through this important step of our rebuild and restoration.

Good luck on your restoration. In the event that you may need a fuel pump , please contact me. I have a few ready to go. Thanks

Thanks for your offer. We have some ideas about the fuel pump, but would really like to gain some clarity about the carburetor first :)
